Project description

FAIROmics goal

The FAIROmics training programme aims to develop young doctoral candidates' skills at the interface between artificial intelligence, life sciences, humanities and social sciences. The core intention of the network's research programme is to create semantic-driven knowledge graphs from multi-omics data and linked databases to enable comprehensive analyses of the growing volume of data to design new healthy, safe, tasty and sustainable fermented foods.

Project approach

WP_overview

Work packages (WP)

WP1: Plant-based food
This WP will be dedicated to the studies and design of microbial communities for fermentation plant-based matrices and update the knowledge graphs created in WP3 and WP4. All the datasets will be generated according to FAIR principles and, thus, available for knowledge graphs.

WP2: Modelling and optimisation
This WP aims to develop tools and software to predict phenotypic traits of relevant food species based on their genome, identify microbial communities' models and define strategies of control.

WP3: Data science and artificial intelligence
This WP aims to create a knowledge graph to design microbial communities for new concepts of plant-based fermented foods. Development of AI-aided tools for information extraction, algorithms to explore knowledge graphs and enhance database interoperability. Data produced in WP1 will be used to test the tools developed, update the knowledge graph and validate the reasoning and querying methods.

WP4: Knowledge graphs as data: consumer science and legal aspects
This WP aims to create a serious game to support the design of plant-based fermented foods and explore the legal framework in the context of open science.

WP5: Training
This WP aims to develop efficient training for DCs and develop personal career plans. The main objectives of this WP are to carry out training activities that will provide DCs with skills required by the project and contribute to their future professional development.

WP6: Management
The scientific coordinator, with the management team and the supervisory board, will ensure the implementation of the project in smooth conditions. The management team will ensure contact with the European Commission and will be responsible for the legal and financial parts of the project.

WP7: Dissemination and outreach
In this WP, all dissemination and outreach activities are coordinated to exploit FAIROmics results successfully, transfer its technologies to industrial users and academic colleagues, and inform the general public about the scientific activities and societal impact of the consortium. Partner VUA, the leader of this WP, has defined valorisation as one of its priorities and will coordinate the outreach and valorisation activities from FAIROmics.
