Vincent Hervé

Vincent Hervé is a research scientist at INRAE in the Paris-Saclay Food and Bioproduct Engineering Research Unit (SayFood). He is a microbial ecologist working on microbial diversity (taxonomic and functional), microbial metabolisms and on the contribution of microorganisms to biogeochemical cycles and ecosystem functioning. He received in PhD in microbial ecology from University of Lorraine, Nancy, France in 2014, for his work on bacterial-fungal interactions in decaying wood. He moved to Switzerland for a first postdoctoral experience between the laboratory of microbiology of the University of Neuchâtel and the laboratory of biogeosciences of the University of Lausanne where he worked on bacterial-fungal interactions in terrestrial ecosystems. Then he moved to Marburg, Germany for four years as postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology to investigate the microbiology of termite guts. He had a third postdoctoral experience at the Insect Biology Research Institute (IRBI, CNRS) in Tours, France working on the evolution of termite gut microbiota. Since 2022, he is a research scientist at INRAE in the SayFood unit where he uses fermented foods as model to study metabolic interactions between microorganisms with a particular focus in iron metabolism. He is also interested in habitat transition of microorganisms. His research combines multiple approaches (data mining, multi-omics, physiology, ecology) at several scales (individual, community, ecosystem) to investigate microbial interactions and metabolisms.
