Martin

Martin Holm Rau holds an M.Sc. in Biotechnology and a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Microbiology from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He is currently a Principal Scientist at Novonesis, a global biotechnology company developing microbial and enzymatic biosolutions for a wide range of industries, including food, dietary supplements, agriculture, and bioenergy. His primary research interests lie at the intersection of computational biology and microbiology, with a particular focus on generating and translating biological insights into industrial applications. In his current role, Martin applies both knowledge-driven and data-driven approaches in the development of novel food cultures. His work integrates systems biology, statistical modelling, metabolic modelling, and machine learning to characterize and select microbial strains, uncover mechanistic insights that guide the development of improved phenotypes, and advance the understanding of strain interactions from a microbial community perspective.
