Lukas Wick

Lukas Y Wick is group leader of the bioavailability group and deputy head of the Department of Applied Microbial Ecology at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research UFZ  in Leipzig, Germany. Being an environmental microbiologist and chemist, he is interested is the microbial ecology of contaminant degradation. By studying the mechanistic processes, he and his group determine key parameters for the description and valorisation of the ecosystem service and functional stability of contaminant turnover in natural and constructed habitats. A primary focus of his work is understanding how mycelial soil fungi and their interactions with bacteria accelerate compound bioavailability and turnover in the mycosphere, serving as critical biological hotspots in both natural and constructed microbial habitats. Lukas Y. Wick is also lecturer at the University of Leipzig, Germany and currently supervises a postdoc, 6 PhD students and two technicians.
