Athens Summer School 2

The Summer School 2 took place at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in June 2026!
Thank you very much to all the lecturers! 
Thank you to the organisers, Marilena Dasenaki, Vasilis Valdramidis and Marvina Oikonomou (DC3) for the perfect organisation!
The DCs were trained in various subjects:
-Analytical Chemistry.
-Metabolomics: Theory and Hands-on.
-Plant-based product biology: Introduction to plant-based fermented products, Fermentation and safety, Quantitative assessments and hands-on applications.
-Predictive modelling: Mathematics for modelling, Multiscale modelling, Model calibration.
-Probabilistic modelling, Systems biology, Systems control.
-Artificial intelligence: Introduction, Generative AI and Prompting, Introduction to Agentic Artificial Intelligence.
-Knowledge graphs: Querying.
-Networks: Theory and exploration.
Special thanks to the lecturers external to the FAIROmics consortium: Pelagia Lekka for the lecture on Metabolomics, Olga Bonilla Luque for the lecture on Quantitative assessment, Athina Markou for the lecture on Molecular analytical techniques, and Eleni Kollia for the practical experiment on yeast fermentation.

We had the opportunity to visit the laboratories.

The DCs could also conduct an experiment to visualise the effect of yeast fermentation under various conditions.

The Summer school ended with a visit to a brewery.

To strengthen the DCs' network, Marvina Oikonomou, DC3, organised a game for which all the Summer School 2 lecturers sent questions and answers. It was a big success with a lot of laughs!
